Forecast Snow Stability: New snow and wind transport of existing soft snow will initially form localised unstable accumulations of windslab in sheltered gullies and on scarp slopes with a North-West through North to Easterly aspect mainly above 900 metres, Fragile cornices may form above these locations. Milder conditions through the day with sleet and rain will give a period of higher instability particularly in areas such as summit gullies where windslab has attained depth. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Forecast Weather Influences: Light new snow will affect the area for much of the period. Sleet and rain later in the day will affect all levels but uncertainty exists regarding precipitation quantities. Winds will be fresh to strong South-Easterly overnight veering South-Westerly early morning. The freezing level will be around 400 metres overnight rising above the summits through the morning. Observed Weather Influences: Cold and dry conditions with moderate to fresh variable winds have affected the area. Summit temperatures today were around -5 degrees Centigrade. ObservedSnowStability: The older snowpack, which exists mainly in North and East facing corries above 900 metres remains well bonded, firm and stable. Wind redistribution has formed some isolated and mainly shallow accumulations of fragile windslab mainly in summit gullies and on steep shaded scarp slopes above 800 metres. These areas are generally avoidable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
