Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger. Weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack necessitate caution.

The fresh wind slabs are prone to triggering above the tree line. Single winter sport participants can release avalanches as before, including medium-sized ones. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. At elevated altitudes the avalanche prone locations are present in all aspects. Shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack can indicate the danger. Avalanches can in isolated cases be released in deep layers and reach medium size.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of a storm force wind from northerly directions, avalanche prone wind slabs formed. They are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on northwest to north to east facing aspects. The new snow and wind slabs are lying on a crust on steep sunny slopes and generally at intermediate and high altitudes. The snowpack will be in some cases subject to considerable local variations.

Tendency

Monday: The avalanche danger will persist.
