Avalanche Activity

Until midday the weather will be mild over a wide area. Wet and gliding snow are to be assessed with care and prudence.

In the early morning more medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible. This applies on steep, rather lightly snow-covered slopes in particular below approximately 2500 m. In isolated cases wet avalanches can release the saturated snowpack and reach large size. On steep grassy slopes more gliding avalanches are possible below approximately 2500 m. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack will be wet all the way through. This applies on sunny slopes in all altitude zones, as well as on shady slopes below approximately 2500 m. The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze and will already be soft in the early morning. In some localities a little new snow to above 2000 m. In isolated cases mostly small wind slabs will form.

Tendency

Wednesday: Sharp decrease in danger of wet avalanches as the temperature drops. Little snow will fall in some localities.
