Points saillants

At the high elevations isolated pockets of slab can be found in steep wind loaded areas. Although small in size, if triggered these slabs could cause serious consequences as they can carry a person into terrain hazards such as rocks and stumps. Although avalanches are unlikely at the mid elevations, caution is advised given the low snow depths. Low elevations remain partly to mostly barren of snow.

In northwest to southeast terrain above 9500 feet, soft slabs could be triggered in very steep terrain. These soft slabs lie upon older hard snow surfaces and facets and could have depths to greater than 12 inches.

Avalanche Discussion

Snow showers will diminish overnight, and skies will partly clear as the system moves to the east. A weak high pressure system tomorrow will supply mostly clear skies with a possibility for occasional light snow showers or flurries in the mountains. Temperatures will be warmer tomorrow with highs at the upper elevations reaching the low thirties and valleys reaching into the forties. The general avalanche hazard will be LOW above 7500 feet. The possibility will continue to find small, isolated wind slabs in areas prone to wind loading above 9500 feet. Use caution in the shallow snowpack while travelling and remember even very small avalanche events can cause season ending injuries.
