Avalanche Activity

The soft wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on near-ridge shady slopes.

The new snow and wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence especially on north to northeast to northwest facing aspects. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in north to northeast to northwest facing aspects and on wind-loaded slopes. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack serve as an alarm indicating the danger. As a consequence of warming more frequent small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible below approximately 2000 m.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack remains unfavourable in particular on steep shady slopes. Backcountry touring calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.
