Avalanche Activity

LO for 20/1. Instabilities in recent and older windslab mainly on N, E, S aspects above 900 metres. Cornices! Considerable hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Instabilities in both recent and older accumulations of windslab will persist. These will mainly be found on North through East to South aspects above 900 metres. Large and fragile cornices will be present mainly above these aspects. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A ridge of high pressure will bring dry conditions. Fresh Northerly winds in the evening will veer to the South-East and become mainly light during the day. After an overnight frost the freezing level will rise to around 600 metres. Observed Weather Influences: There were strong Westerly winds and snow showers today. The freezing level was slowly rising, around 600 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: Little change in the snowpack. Instabilities are present in both recent and older accumulations of windslab. These are mostly to be found on North through East to South aspects above 900 metres. Large and fragile cornices are present mainly above these aspects. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
