LO for 29/12. Localised windslab forming mainly on steep NE, E and SE aspects above 900m. Moderate hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will remain frozen and stable. Fresh areas of windslab will develop in areas sheltered from the Westerly winds. Greatest accumulations will be on steep North-East, East and South-East aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will be around 800 metres with snow showers throughout the period. Winds will be moderate to strong from a Westerly direction. Observed Weather Influences: The freezing level rose above the summits overnight before lowering to around 750 metres during the day. Mainly dry with some light showers later on Wednesday. ObservedSnowStability: The brief thaw and freeze cycle overnight has stabilised and consolidated the snowpack. Amounts of fresh snow later in the period were not significant. The avalanche hazard is Low.
