Points saillants

The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.

Problèmes avalancheux

  • New snow

    • Above 1,900 m
  • Wind slab

    • Above 1,900 m

Snowpack Structure

The new snow and wind slabs of the weekend are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 1900 m. In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation and on steep slopes medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large avalanches are possible as a consequence of new snow and wind. As the snowfall becomes more intense the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent.

Avalanche Activity

The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.

Some snow will fall on Monday in the Prealps and in Untertilliach. As a consequence of snowfall and the strong wind, fresh snow drift accumulations formed during the last two days. The fresh snow and the wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence above approximately 1900 m. Avalanches can be released by small loads.
