Points saillants

With new snow, assess the surface problem before committing to significant avalanche terrain.

When the sun comes out, the likelihood of natural and human triggered avalanches will increase.

Problèmes avalancheux

  • Loose Dry

May occur on steep slopes at all elevations before sun come out or on shaded slopes.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches observed the past few days.

Snowpack Summary

10-20 new storm snow sits on top of a melt-freeze crust and a slowly refreezing snowpack below that. The January drought layer lies 50 –130 cm deep, with snow depths at treeline averaging 130–200 cm.

Weather Summary

A pulse of snow is followed by a gradual warming trend. See the table below for a more detailed forecast.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Watch for fresh storm slabs building throughout the day.
  • Carefully evaluate big and steep terrain features before committing to them.
  • Rocks will heat up with daytime warming and may become trigger points for loose wet avalanches.
