Avalanche Activity

Field observations and stability tests have shown a favourable avalanche situation.

The wind slabs of the last three days are now only very rarely prone to triggering. Backcountry tourers or freeriders can release avalanches in isolated cases, with a large load in most cases. They are rather small. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation mostly small moist and wet avalanches are possible. The danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase during the day, reaching danger level 2 (moderate).

Snowpack Structure

Field observations and stability tests have confirmed the favourable bonding of the snowpack. As a consequence of falling temperatures a crust formed on the surface during the night, in particular on sunny slopes below approximately 2500 m. Snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and at high altitude a little snow is lying. At low altitude less snow than usual is lying. In the south-east of the region, watch out for the numerous rocks hidden by the little recent snow.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
