Newberry

With no substantial snowfall in the Newberry zone for several weeks and minimal new snow on tap for Sunday, avalanches will remain unlikely in the Newberry zone. Continue to use safe travel practices and be mindful of hazards that exist in low coverage.

Despite temperatures reaching nearly 50 degrees down at lake level on Saturday, North facing terrain above 7K is still holding dry snow and actually skiing quite well. A skiff of new snow that fell Thursday night (less than a half inch above 7,000 ft) hasn't done much to improve riding conditions on sunnier slopes, and I don't imagine Sunday's similar dusting will do much either. Despite continued low tide conditions and some slopes not currently holding enough snow to ride (especially south facing), there are some positives... Trail 11 (under power lines) sled road is still completely snow covered, providing easy access to the upper main road. Additionally, the snow is relatively quite stable out at Paulina, so there is less to worry about if riding the area's steep slopes! Lastly, there is a relative abundance of shaded slopes in the Newberry zone, providing choices  for impressively pleasant riding conditions given recent weather. Not all hope is lost!
