Points saillants

Large avalanches are near certain to release on their own. Avalanches may hit roadways, trails, and structures in the valley bottoms. Stay off of and out from under steep slopes. Check back at 7 AM Sunday morning for a full forecast.

The backcountry Avalanche WARNING does not apply to the HWY 21 avalanche program.

Avalanche Discussion

Heavy snowfall, wind, and lower elevation rain will produce very dangerous avalanche conditions before sunrise Sunday. Conditions will further deteriorate during the day on Sunday. Many "flavors" of avalanches will occur, but they share similarities:

  • Many avalanches will release on their own. 
  • They will be large enough to bury or kill people. 
  • They may impact trails, roadways, and structures in the valley bottoms.
