Avalanche Summary

A problematic, stiff-over-soft snowpack structure is found on many slopes where you can trigger an avalanche. You may find deeper, wind-drifted areas that span adjacent terrain features on northerly and easterly-facing slopes near and above treeline. Most slides will break in recent storm layers, but in large alpine features, some may break deeper and in surprising ways. Use extra caution if traveling above terrain traps or cliff bands where a smaller avalanche could magnify the consequences of getting caught. Wind-sheltered slopes around 30 degrees, without steeper terrain overhead, offer safer travel options.
