Fresh and older wind slabs are to be assessed with care and prudence. The danger of moist and wet avalanches will already increase in the late morning.
The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence above the tree line. These can as before be released, even by a single winter sport participant and reach medium size. Significant warming: On steep sunny slopes and at the base of rock walls the likelihood of dry and wet avalanches will increase during the day. Caution is to be exercised on very steep slopes also at low and intermediate altitudes. An increasing number of medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural avalanches are possible.
Over a wide area 15 to 25 cm of snow fell on Thursday in all altitude zones. The strong wind has transported the fresh and old snow. As a consequence of the strong northwesterly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations formed during the last few days. In particular in the vicinity of peaks snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Shady slopes: The snowpack is dry and has a loosely bonded surface. Sunny slopes: The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack below approximately 2500 m.
The weather will be mild. Midday and afternoon: Gradual increase in danger of dry and moist avalanches as a consequence of solar radiation.
