Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will be well bonded, firm and stable. Localised deposits of fresh windslab will build gradually through the day, deposits will be confined to wind sheltered areas such as gullies and coire rims. North-East to South-East aspects above 700 metres will be most affected. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Showers throughout the forecast period will initially fall as snow above around 500 metres, turning to rain below 700 metres as the freezing level rises through the day. Winds will be strong mainly Westerly. Observed Weather Influences: Heavy rain at all levels this morning turned to snow above around 300 metres as the freezing level lowered. Strong mainly westerly winds. The freezing level lowered from above the summits to around 600 metres by the end of the day. ObservedSnowStability: After a period of instability last night and early this morning, the snowpack is now consolidating. The snow surface is beginning to refreeze in the colder temperatures. Snowpack stability is generally good. The avalanche hazard is Low.
