Points saillants

The general avalanche hazard is CONSIDERABLE today. Unstable slabs one to three feet in depth exist in steep wind loaded avalanche prone terrain. These slabs lie upon hard crusts and weak layers of faceted snow and could be easily triggered today by backcountry users who venture into avalanche terrain. This delicate snowpack presents a dangerous scenario with the potential for fatalities. Skiers in the Tetons have been triggering avalanches as they approach steep wind loaded avalanche paths. On Thursday a skier was completely buried and rescued by his companions in the backcountry near Grand Targhee Resort.
