Snowpack Structure

Snowpack

At the beginning of October, there was a thin snowpack, especially in the high Alpine regions and on north-facing slopes above 2600 to 2800 m. On steep north-facing slopes, Saturday’s and Sunday’s fresh and drifted snow was deposited on top of a faceted snowpack.

Outlook

On Tuesday conditions will be partly cloudy in the north-east, with conditions elsewhere mostly sunny on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures will rise significantly. The zero-degree level will be at 3800 m on Wednesday.

The risk of dry avalanches must be borne in mind, especially on north-facing slopes above 2800 m and in the high Alpine regions in general. Moist snow slides are possible on steep sunny slopes. The risk of falling or being swept away must be borne in mind.
