Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on high-elevation wind-drifted slopes where slabs of drifted snow sit above weaker layers near the ground. If you trigger an avalanche in one of these spots, it could be large and dangerous. You are more likely to trigger an avalanche from thin spots, such as gully edges, rocky areas, or break-overs where the weak layers are closer to the surface, making them easier to impact. Avoid all areas where you see signs of recent wind drifting.
