A Special Avalanche Advisory for much of Colorado. Heavy snow and strong winds dramatically changed avalanche conditions. You can easily trigger large, deadly avalanches throughout President’s Day weekend.

Dangerous avalanche conditions persist. Ongoing snow loading onto a very weak snowpack will be most problematic on north-to-east to south-facing slopes as winds shift to the west and northwest. Use extra caution and create wide buffers to avoid steeper slopes and overhead hazards. Avalanches may break in unexpected ways or from a distance away from a slope. Seek out lower-angle wind-sheltered slopes as safer options.
