Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on slopes where wind-drifted snow rests on top of weak snow buried near the ground. The most dangerous slopes face north, northeast to east above, and near treeline. Watch for and avoid drifts on steep slopes below ridgelines and the sides of gullies.

On steep slopes below treeline, the snow is very weak, and it may be possible to trigger a loose sluff that can grow rapidly and drag you through rough terrain.
