Points saillants

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE above an elevation of 9,000 feet and LOW below that elevation, however the hazard at all elevations will be INCREASING as the day progresses. On north facing aspects above 9,000 feet, persistent slabs lie upon weak snow at the base of the snowpack. The new snow and wind will be adding more weight onto these slabs and increasing the potential for them to be triggered by skiers or riders. In addition small pockets of new soft slab up to six inches deep will begin to form on slick old snow surfaces.

    Weak, faceted snow persists at the base of the snow pack on northerly and shaded aspects above 9,000 feet. Skiers and riders have the potential to trigger slab avalanches on this layer with depths to three feet. Today's new snow and winds will increase the sensitivity of these persistent slabs to human triggers. Caution is advised as these slabs mail fail after a slope has been crossed several times.
