Avalanche Activity

The large quantity of fresh snow and also in particular the sometimes deep wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects.

The large quantity of fresh snow and also in particular the sometimes deep wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The fresh snow and the wind slabs formed during the snowfall can be released by a single winter sport participant in all aspects. On wind-loaded slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls the avalanche situation is more precarious. Some medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large natural avalanches are still even now likely.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow is bonding poorly with the old snowpack. In the course of the day sometimes deep wind slabs will form. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on steep north, northeast and northwest facing slopes.
