Points saillants

The overall danger rating remains CONSIDERABLE today on the Manti Skyline on steep upper elevation slopes that face northwest through east.

The chances for triggering something is becoming less each day that goes by.

However, weak snow still remains deep in the snowpack and I'm not trusting it.

    Early season sugary faceted snow at the base of the snowpack remains the biggest concern. The chances for triggering something that breaks into the Persistent Weak Layer are decreasing but it could be bad news if you do trigger something. You probably won't see obvious signs of danger like recent avalanches or "whumpfing" of the snow underneath you. You're biggest clue that the weak snow still remains is feeling your track drop down into it while riding. If you step off your machine or skis or snowboard, you'll most likely punch through into this weak snow.

    Bottom line: The weak layers have not gained enough strength for me to bet my life on. I'm still avoiding avalanche terrain.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: East wind was slightly breezy along the ridgetops on Tuesday. It just switched around to the southwest and is fairly light. Temperatures plumeted into the single digits overnight. There is lots of good riding to be had out there right now.

Mountain Weather: We'll see high clouds streaming into our area today with a good amount of sun poking through. High temperatures should make it into the mid 20s. Wind will shift around to the northwest and increase slightly in speed. The next chance for snow is Saturday into Sunday when a weak storm moves through that should bring a few inches.
