Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs can be released easily in some places in particular on steep shady slopes. Weak layers in the old snowpack necessitate caution and restraint. As a consequence of warming moist small and medium sized avalanches are to be expected.

Dry avalanches can be released in deeper layers also. As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase on south facing slopes below approximately 2500 m.

Snowpack Structure

Precarious weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes. The upper section of the snowpack is hard and its surface has a strong crust.

Tendency

As a consequence of warming during the day the prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses.
