Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs above approximately 1800 m.

In all aspects the wind slabs will increase in size. The soft wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence above approximately 2500 m. On wind-loaded slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain the situation is more precarious. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on north, northeast and northwest facing slopes.

Snowpack Structure

In particular above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released even by a single winter sport participant above approximately 2500 m. Especially shady slopes where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are unfavourable. Low and intermediate altitudes as well as sunny slopes: Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to consolidation of the snowpack.
