Points saillants

The old snowpack is generally stable, and avalanche concerns are linked to the new snow that has fallen in combination with strong winds over the past few days. Avalanches may be easy to trigger in isolated, sheltered terrain features where wind slabs are present. There are generally small amounts of new snow, which limits the potential size of avalanches, although this may vary somewhat across the region. In areas that have received most new snow, some naturally triggered avalanches cannot be ruled out due to the strong winds.

Avalanche Activity

Tendency

The old snowpack is generally stable, and avalanche concerns are linked to the new snow that has fallen in combination with strong winds over the past few days. Avalanches may be easy to trigger in isolated, sheltered terrain features where wind slabs are present. There are generally small amounts of new snow, which limits the potential size of avalanches, although this may vary somewhat across the region. Most new snow is expected at the Øksfjord peninsula and towards Kvænangsfjellet Friday. If some areas gets longer periods of sun, small avalanches can occur in steep terrain where the new snow gets heated for the first time.
