Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will remain generally stable. Fresh areas of moderately bonded windslab will be deposited in wind sheltered locations mainly on North-East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. These areas are not expected to be particularly extensive or deep. Windward aspects will be scoured and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A windy day with gale force Westerlies. Snow showers are expected through the day. The freezing level will be around 600 metres. Observed Weather Influences: The freezing rose above the summits overnight before dropping to around 900 metres by morning and 700 metres by late afternoon. There were some short but intense snow showers. Gale force winds were from the South-West. ObservedSnowStability: The existing snowpack has consolidated with the thaw and refreeze. In many areas it has a crust of variable strength and thickness. It is generally stable throughout. Fresh deposits during the day were not significant. The avalanche hazard is Low.
