Avalanche Activity

Main danger: glide-snow avalanches. Beware old snowdrifts at high altitudes.

In steep terrain which has not yet discharged, in forest lanes, and on smooth grassy slopes in all aspects, glide-snow avalanches can continually be expected. Solar radiation and markedly higher temperatures will make small wet avalanches possible esp. on sunny slopes. Older drifts can still be triggered as small-to-medium slab avalanches by persons. Such danger zones occur at high altitudes in shady, steep ridgeline terrain. Beware the risks of being swept along and forced to take a fall! Increasingly frequent small wet avalanches possible during the course of the day.

Snowpack Structure

The recent fresh snow has settled and is well bonded with the often melt-freeze encrusted old snowpack. The uppermost layers are still soft, esp. on shady slopes. Older often blanketed snowdrifts are sometimes still prone to triggering. At intermediate altitude the snowpack is often moist down to the ground. Gliding movements are still possible in steep terrain where the snow has not discharged yet. At low altitudes the snowpack has deteriorated.

Weather Forecast

Nocturnal hours: relatively clear skies. Monday: Very sunny and mild, only few thin cloudbanks. Zero-degree level will ascend to 3500 m. At 2000 m: 3-9 degrees. Light winds.

Tendency

Also Tuesday will be very sunny and very mild. Gliding snow activity will increase again, also wet loose-snow avalanches. The danger of dry-snow avalanches will decrease.
