You are unlikely to get any obvious signs of instability before you trigger an avalanche to the ground. Slopes with pillows of firm wind-drifted snow are the most dangerous. You are most likely to trigger a slide from invisible shallower areas of the slope, so stick to low-angle terrain on these aspects. Slopes sheltered from the wind and south slopes offer safer travel.
