Points saillants

Above 8500 feet some potential may persist for larger triggers such snow machines or groups of skiers to trigger slab avalanches up to three feet in depth in very steep avalanche prone terrain. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 8,500 feet.

At the upper elevations a weak layer of faceted snow persists near the base of the snowpack. Some potential may remain for humans to trigger slab avalanches on this layer with depths up to three feet on very steep avalanche paths.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Friday looks to be mostly clear as high pressure passes over the area. Occasional mountain flurries are possible. Temperatures are to rise to near ten degrees and winds are to be westerly with ten to fifteen mile per hour averages. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Low in the Tetons and Moderate in the Togwotee Pass and Southwest Trails areas where slides involving weak snow near the base of the snowpack, although unlikely could be triggered in very steep terrain.
