Calm, mild weather is helping reduce the reactivity of recent snowfall. Still, be on the lookout for stiff pockets of drifted snow in steep, rocky, cross-loaded couloirs. Most of these avalanches will be small, but even a small slide can ruin your day if it carries you into a terrain trap, like rocks or a cliff.

Sunny skies increase the chance of natural wet avalanches in the afternoon. Pay attention to what slopes are above you and look for rollerballs as an early warning sign to head for the shade.
