Avalanche Activity

TO for 09.03 Redistribution of existing snow. Windslab on SE, S, W aspects above 800m. Cornices building. Av Haz Moderate

Forecast Snow Stability: Redistribution of any unconsolidated snow will take place and fresh unstable windslab will continue to build on South to West aspects above 800 metres. Any existing weaknesses in the snowpack will persist. Areas most affected will be coire rims, gully tops and other steep wind sheltered locations but these will be localised and easily avoidable. Fragile cornices will start to build. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A dry day with light East-North-Easterly winds gradually increasing throughout the day to become fresh. Initially freezing at all levels slowing rising to 200 metres. Observed Weather Influences: A bright sunny day with light Easterly winds. The freezing level rose during the day to around 200 meters.

ObservedSnowStability: Unconsolidated snow is present on all aspects and at all levels. Where this has gained depth, localised areas of windslab are present primarily on wind sheltered South-East to South-West aspects above 800 metres, where coire rims, gully tops are mostly affected. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
