Togwotee Pass

The general avalanche hazard is LOW. On north facing slopes soft slabs or sloughs to 8 inches in depth could be triggered by backcountry travelers in steep terrain. A slight potential remains for dangerous, deep hard slabs to be triggered on very steep slopes and in cliff areas.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. ) Tuesday night will be dry then clouds will increase Wednesday bringing a chance of isolated snow showers to the Tetons while other areas will be dry. Wednesday morning temperatures will be in the teens then warm to the upper twenties by afternoon. Winds will be westerly on the ridge tops at twenty m.p.h.Sun crusts and cool temperatures will help stabilize the new snow. Sloughs could be triggered by skiers on steep, shaded slopes at the upper elevations. Any period of extended sunshine will increase the chance for loose sloughs on sunlit slopes. The avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate Wednesday in the Tetons and Greys River areas and Low in the Togwotee Pass area. Both the Greys River and Togwotee Pass areas have received less snow through the recent storm cycle but there remains a chance of triggering deeper, hard slabs in very steep terrain at higher elevations in those regions.
