Avalanche Summary

Most slopes are safe from avalanches primarily due to very thing snow cover. You might trigger a small avalanche on slopes that face north through east that hold wind-drifted snow. Look for and avoid pillows of snow on the backs of ridges, the sides of gullies, or downhill of steep convex rollovers. Consider the consequences of a small avalanche; when combined with terrain traps such as cliffs, rocks, dense trees, or gullies, even a small avalanche can quickly become a big problem.
