Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche large enough to bury you on slopes that face northwest to north through east. These avalanches will break on a layer of weak snow buried about two to three feet below the snow surface and can break above you and grow larger than you expect. To reduce your chances of triggering an avalanche, stick to southerly-facing slopes. If you do choose to travel on shady, northerly-facing areas, you can find safer travel options by sticking to slopes less than about 30 degrees steep with no steep slopes overhead.
