Points saillants

Conditions are generally stable in the Seward/Lost Lake zone, and it is unlikely that a person will trigger an avalanche today. However, isolated pockets of unstable snow may still exist where someone could trigger a small avalanche. As always, expose only one person at a time to steep terrain, watch your partners from safe spots outside of runout zones, and have an exit route planned in case you find one of those lingering pockets.

Avalanche Discussion

Recent Avalanches: There was a small skier-triggered wind slab avalanche at 1400' on Mt Eva last Tuesday. The avalanche was about 1’ deep, up to 100 wide.

The Seward area has seen relentless outflow winds since the last significant storm on March 6. At this point, there is very little snow left to get blown around, and it is unlikely a person will trigger an avalanche. However, we can never rule that out entirely. If you are traveling in steep terrain, it is important to practice safe travel protocols to mitigate the consequences of triggering an avalanche. This includes traveling one at a time in steep terrain, watching your partners from safe spots outside of avalanche runout zones, and having an escape route planned before committing to a steep slope.
