Avalanche Activity

He avalanche danger will increase in the afternoon.

Over a wide area 20 to 30 cm of snow, and up to 40 cm in some localities, will fall until the evening above approximately 1900 m. The new snow will become progressively more unstable at intermediate and high altitudes, especially on steep slopes. Avalanches can in some places be released, even by a single winter sport participant and reach medium size. The sleet will give rise to moistening of the snowpack below approximately 1800 m.

Snowpack Structure

20 to 30 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall today above approximately 1900 m. The fresh snow and the mostly small wind slabs that are forming at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions will be deposited on a crust in particular on sunny slopes above approximately 2000 m. The fresh snow will be rather moist. Especially in areas with smaller amounts of fresh snow, this will favour bonding with the old snowpack. The sleet will give rise to moistening of the snowpack below approximately 1800 m.
