Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs represent the main danger.

The sometimes strong wind has transported some snow. The sometimes deep wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant on steep shady slopes above approximately 2600 m. This applies in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. The avalanches can as before reach medium size. As a consequence of falling temperatures, the natural activity of wet avalanches will decrease.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 100 to 150 cm of snow, and up to 180 cm in some localities, has fallen since Saturday. The moderate wind has transported the new snow significantly. The new snow has settled to a large extent at low and intermediate altitudes. Intermediate and high altitudes: The new snow of the weekend is poorly bonded with the old snowpack in some places. The surface of the snowpack will soften later than the day before.
