Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow and wind a moderate avalanche danger will persist in some regions.

Since Friday wind slabs formed in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. This applies in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation especially at intermediate and high altitudes. The more recent wind slabs are mostly rather small but in some cases prone to triggering.

Snowpack Structure

Wind and new snow to intermediate altitudes. Above approximately 1600 m snow will fall today in particular in the regions exposed to the foehn wind. As a consequence of new snow and wind, wind slabs will form in the course of the day in particular adjacent to ridgelines. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. Over a wide area less snow than usual is lying. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
