Avalanche Activity

Isolated danger zones for wet-snow avalanches

Avalanche danger is low. In isolated cases, small glide-snow or wet-snow avalanches can release in steep terrain which has not yet discharged or it can be triggered by persons.

Snowpack Structure

On sunny slopes, the ground is becoming bare. What little snow there is, is moist-to-wet (0-degree isotherm) and often forms a crust capable of bearing loads after a night of clear skies. Daytime warming and solar radiation soften the crust and make it forfeit its firmness.

Weather Forecast

On Saturday, dense cloud cover will reduce visibility to start with, initially rainfall/snowfall regionally will be light, the zero-degree level hovering around 2000m. During daytime hours, dry weather will set in, sunshine will come through. In the afternoon hours, dense convective clouds will build up and local showers could be generated (zero-degree level at 2300m). In the Northern Alps, brisk NE winds will be blowing, reaching speeds of 40 km/hr. At 2000m: between 0 and 3 degrees; at 3000m: between -5 and -3 degrees. Skies on Saturday night will be variably cloudy, but dry by and large.
