Avalanche Activity

LO for 26.2 Unstable windslab will persist mainly on N-E-SE aspcts abve 900m. Unstable cornices above these aspcts. Haz Considerable

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will persist, mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Cornices present mainly above these aspects will be unstable. At lower levels the snowpack will continue to slowly consolidate. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will be very strong generally Southerly. Light overnight snowfall above about 1000 metres will be followed by a dry day. The freezing level will be around 1100 metres during the day. Observed Weather Influences: It was a dry day. Light to moderate Westerly winds increased in strength and backed South-Westerly from midday. The freezing level rose to around 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Recently deposited moderately and poorly bonded windslab is present in areas sheltered from the recent strong winds. Greatest accumulations are on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Fragile cornices exist above these aspects. More localised windslab is also present on other aspects and at lower levels. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
