Points saillants

Mostly stable conditions are expected in the early morning hours. However, warming temperatures and sunshine will soften snow surfaces and increase the avalanche hazard. Wet slides are possible on steep slopes after significant warming has occurred and could become especially dangerous in major avalanche paths above an elevation of 8,000 feet. Avalanche terrain should be avoided during the warmest portion of the day.

Wet loose slides are possible on very steep slopes after snow surfaces soften. These slides may go to the ground on very steep slopes where the snow is wet, loose and unconsolidated.

Dangerous slab avalanches are possible in steep avalanche paths during the heat of the day. These slabs could fail on buried layers of faceted snow.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Limited moisture in a marginally unstable air mass will continue to bring scattered snow showers to the mountains and a mix of clouds and sunshine. Temperatures will fall in the lower 20s overnight and rise into the upper 30s to upper 40s on Thursday. West to southwest winds will remain light. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the early morning hours and increase to MODERATE after snow surfaces soften. Wet slides are possible on very steep slopes after significant warming has occurred.
