Points saillants

The mostly stable snowpack is comprised primarily of faceted snow with several inches of recently fallen snow on the surface. Backcountry riders and skiers could trigger isolated pockets of shallow soft slab in steep wind loaded terrain.

In high avalanche starting zones where wind loading has occurred, shallow soft slabs up to a foot deep could be triggered by humans. On very steep slopes these small slabs could also entrain the upper portion of the weak faceted snowpack.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Limited moisture may result in some cloudiness with a slight chance of snow flurries at the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere. Temperatures at all elevations will drop to ten to 15 degrees below zero overnight and rise into the single digits during the day. Winds will be northerly at about five miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW at all elevations. However, low hazard does not mean there will be no hazard. At the upper elevations the weight of a single person could trigger isolated pockets of wind slab up to one foot in depth. In extreme terrain these shallow wind slabs could knock a person over and carry them over a cliff or into a terrain trap.
