Avalanche Summary

Most slopes are generally safe from avalanches. You may find isolated, wind-loaded areas on high-elevation, northerly-facing slopes where you might trigger a small avalanche. Smooth, rounded surfaces are an indicator of recent drifting, and areas of potential danger. Use caution above cliffs or terrain traps, and in more complex terrain where a smaller avalanche could magnify the consequences of getting caught.

Below treeline, the snow surface on sunny slopes may soften as temperatures warm during the day. If you observe rollerballs or sink past your shins into wet, rotten snow, retreat to shadier slopes or call it a day.
