Avalanche Summary

Avalanche danger will increase throughout the day as snow piles up and lingers into Saturday.

Over a foot of new snow is expected, with north winds driving the possibility of a Gorge event and heavy snowfall in the Cimarrons, along north 550, and Camp Bird Road. You can trigger avalanches in the new snow, but the main concern remains finding a shallow spot in the slab on a steep slope and triggering a larger avalanche that breaks deep in the snowpack. The most dangerous slopes face the north half of the compass and east.

Keep it simple during the storm by choosing low-angle slopes protected from the wind.
