Avalanche Activity

The avalanche prone locations are rather rare and are easy to recognise. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

In particular in the Prealps some new snow to low altitudes. This snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack above approximately 2300 m. As a consequence of new snow and a sometimes moderate wind, small wind slabs formed. Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls the danger of dry avalanches is a little higher. Weak layers in the old snowpack can still be released in very isolated cases by winter sport participants.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow is lying on a crust in all aspects above approximately 2300 m. In all regions only a little snow is now lying. The old snowpack is faceted. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on shady slopes. This applies in particular above approximately 2300 m.
