The fresh snow and the extensive wind slabs represent the main danger.
The fresh snow and the extensive wind slabs represent the main danger.
In particular in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain large wind slabs formed. Dry avalanches can be released, even by small loads in isolated cases and reach large size. Below approximately 2300 m medium-sized to large ground avalanches are possible.
The snowfall gave rise to unfavourable bonding of the snowpack over a wide area in particular on steep slopes. The fresh wind slabs are difficult even for the trained eye to recognise and to be assessed with care and prudence.
