Points saillants

Slab avalanches could be triggered in steep terrain at the upper elevations. Sunshine and warming temperatures will be increasing the potential for these slabs to be triggered by backcountry users. Shallow wet loose slides and cornice failures are possible on very steep sunlit slopes during the warmest portion of the day. Monitor conditions and avoid steep terrain features after significant warming has occurred.

At the upper elevations pockets of wind slab up to a foot in depth could be triggered by skiers and riders in steep wind loaded avalanche starting zones and cliff areas. Warming temperatures and sunshine will increase the sensitivity of these slabs to human triggers.

Avalanche Discussion

An approaching disturbance will bring a couple of inches of new snow to the mountains overnight. Conditions will be dry on Wednesday. Skies will be partly cloudy. Temperatures will be below freezing tonight and rise into the 40s in the mountains tomorrow. Winds will be southerly at speeds of 5 to 15 miles per hour. Pockets of wind slab up a foot in depth are still a concern in isolated terrain features at the upper elevations. In the morning the general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the upper elevations and LOW at the lower elevations. The hazard for wet snow avalanches will increase at all elevations during the day.
