SC.09.01.22 Windslab will persist around gully tops and corrie rims above 800m on NW through N to E aspects. Ava hazard Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Isolated accumulations of moderately bonded windslab will persist on sheltered North-West through North to East aspects above 800 metres. Greatest amounts will be found in gully tops, around corrie rims and in very sheltered steep terrain above 800 metres. Elsewhere, there is a general thin cover of snow on most aspects with isolated deeper drifts in sheltered hollows and burn lines. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will be around 600 metres for most of this period, only lifting slightly at the end of the afternoon. A cloudy but dry day is expected. Winds will ease from the Westerly quadrants becoming light Northerlies from midday. Observed Weather Influences: Light snowfall overnight, dry thereafter. Cloud base around the tops first thing, clearing mid afternoon. Slightly warmer, -4 degrees overnight at 920 metres but rising to -1 degree celsius by midday. The winds were moderate to fresh with strong gusts at times, generally veering throughout the morning to the West. ObservedSnowStability: Isolated accumulations of moderately bonded windslab are present on North-West through North to East aspects above 800 metres. Gully tops, corrie rims and steep very sheltered terrain are holding deepest amounts. Elsewhere there is a light covering of soft unconsolidated snow with recently scoured old snow firm and icy. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
