East Slopes South

Winds will transport new snow onto lee aspects at mid and upper elevations Monday night and Tuesday.   Steer around areas of wind drifted snow and avoid steep open slopes below ridgelines where you may trigger a slab avalanche.  Watch for low snow related travel hazards below treeline. 

The East South was on the wrong side of the jet stream as we exit a multi-day storm cycle that brought more rain than snow to the zone along with wind and above freezing temperatures.  A sharp cool down Monday night should help to lock up the previously wet snowpack.  A few inches of snow and strong westerly ridgeline winds will transport new snow onto lee aspects with deeper drifts possible at higher elevations closer to the Cascade crest. 

Expect shallow snow cover below treeline and at all elevations further from the Cascade Crest. Typical early season hazards can be expected with open creeks, stumps, and rocks.
